Montréal-based Vention has opened a new physical AI research lab to accelerate its work in automated manufacturing. The move is positioned as a response to the growing demand for systems that operate and interact with the physical world, a field known as Physical AI.

CEO Etienne Lacroix noted that the new lab team operates on missions 12 months out, contrasting sharply with the typical quarterly release cycles of other internal teams. The physical AI platform is already deployed across more than 4,000 factories globally, serving clients like Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Lacroix stated that the company's 400 percent increase in physical AI-related revenues over the past year provided the impetus to formalize this long-term research capacity. The lab is further supported by external guidance from Joelle Pineau, Chief AI Officer at Cohere, who will advise on the research agenda and governance.

Lacroix framed this move within the context of the $130 billion manufacturing automation market, suggesting that physical AI could increase its value by up to a factor of ten. The lab’s existence also reinforces Vention's claim that it is currently leading in Canada regarding the deployability of the physical layer for industrial AI.
